Euro up against dollar

Euro rises slightly against US dollar even as German exports plunge

BERLIN (AP) -- The 16-nation euro rose slightly Tuesday against the U.S. dollar even after Germany, Europe's largest economy, reported a plunge in exports.
In morning European trading the euro purchased $1.3908, up from $1.3891 the night before in New York. The British pound rose to $1.6124 from $1.6045 in New York, while the dollar slipped to buy 98.19 Japanese yen from 98.40 late Monday.
In Germany, the Federal Statistical Office reported that exports dropped 4.8 percent in April over March, while imports were down 5.8 percent, accordingly to seasonally adjusted figures.
Meanwhile, exports were down 28.7 percent over April of the previous year, while imports were down 22.9 percent.
